The 2010 Winter Olympics finally landed at Vancouver and Whistler. The Cities of Vancouver and Whistler were selected host city of the XXI Olympic Winter Games in 2010 at the 115th IOC Session in Prague on 2 July 2003.
We are proud to be a host city for a global competition of best winter athletes world has to offer. Whistler is home to 10,000 residents and boasts the largest ski area in North America. Whistler is a fairly young community with unprecedented natural scenery - Whistler Mountain opened in 1966 and Blackcomb Mountain opened in 1980.
In 1992, Snow Country Magazine voted Whistler Blackcomb as the Number One Ski Resort in North America. Since then, various publications have continued to offer top designations to the
Whistler
Ski Resort, and finally we deserved a chance to host
2010 Winter Olympics.
2010 Winter Olympics will feature alpine, Nordic, Sliding and Paralympic events in new or existing facilities. Whistler and Blackcomb have over 200 marked trails, on 7000 acres of terrain, including runs that are seven miles long.
There are 33 lifts and gondolas that can handle up to 59,000 skiers an hour. An athletes' village and media centre for Whistler based athletes and media will also be developed. Each venue will meet or exceed Olympic and international sport federation standards and will have a plan for post-Games use.

sliding events, the Nordic events as well as all the Paralympic events
in 2010 Olympics.
